Whole Cloves
Hand-picked at peak bloom for maximum essential oil — Sri Lanka's most aromatic treasure.
Nature's Most Intense Spice
Cloves are the dried flower buds of the Syzygium aromaticum tree. Our cloves are hand-picked at the precise moment the buds turn from green to a pale pink — the critical window for maximum eugenol content, the compound that gives cloves their characteristic warm, intense aroma.
After harvest, the buds are slowly sun-dried over several days. This traditional method locks in their volatile oils, producing a deep reddish-brown spice with a glossy sheen and a powerful, warming fragrance that dominates any dish or blend it enters.
Why Our Cloves Are Exceptional
High Eugenol Content
Sri Lankan cloves contain 70–90% eugenol by essential oil weight — one of the highest concentrations globally. This makes our cloves prized by perfumers, pharmacists, and chefs alike.
Harvested at Exact Ripeness
Picking at the pink-bud stage (before the flower opens) is critical. Once open, the essential oils dissipate rapidly. Our farmers have generations of experience knowing exactly when to harvest.
Traditional Sun-Drying
Slow sun-drying over 4–5 days allows moisture to escape gradually while preserving the volatile oil compounds. Industrial drying methods destroy the delicate aromatic profile we protect.
Hand-Sorted for Uniformity
Each batch is manually inspected and sorted for size, oil content, and colour. Broken or shrivelled buds are removed, ensuring only full, plump, premium cloves reach you.
How to Use Whole Cloves
Curries & Biryanis
Temper 2–3 whole cloves in hot oil at the start of a curry or biryani to release their warmth into the base.
Spice Blends & Masalas
An essential component of garam masala, Chinese five-spice, and mulling spice blends. Adds depth and warmth.
Mulled Wine & Cider
Stud oranges with whole cloves and simmer with red wine, cinnamon, and star anise for a festive winter warmer.
Pickling & Preservation
Their natural antimicrobial properties make cloves perfect for pickling vegetables, fruits, and chutneys.
Traditional Medicine
Used in Ayurveda and dentistry for centuries. Eugenol is a natural analgesic widely used for oral pain relief.
